In recent years, the traditional route to becoming a skilled tradesman through apprenticeships has all but disappeared as companies reduce their budgets, and retirements take a further toll on the existing skilled tradesmen. Recent reports suggest that there is currently a 40,000 shortfall of plumbers alone, and this is set to get worse.
